Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings
Access Video, School’s Video & Jubilee Tower Tour
Director / Videographer / Producer
Directed and Produced by Jacob Blackburn, edited by Lillie Sherry
As part of Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings’ commitment to accessibility, I directed, produced, and filmed an access video covering the entire site. Designed to support visitors with access needs before they arrive, the video offers a detailed visual guide to navigating the building and its surroundings — including parking, entrances, exhibition spaces, facilities, and the café. By combining clear visuals, considered pacing, and informative narration, the video helps ensure that all visitors can feel confident and welcomed when planning their visit.
I also led the creation of an educational school video designed to bring the Flaxmill Maltings’ heritage to life for young learners. In this role, I directed and produced compelling visual content that highlighted classroom engagement, hands-on workshops, and the building’s remarkable history. Through dynamic on-site footage and interviews with educators, the video emphasises how the Mill's ground-floor exhibition and behind-the-scenes elements make industrial history accessible, alive, and relevant for school-age audiences.
I also directed, produced, and filmed an access video showcasing the Jubilee Tower experience with full inclusivity in mind. This video offers a carefully curated journey up the tower for visitors unable to climb the final 56 wooden steps, ensuring they don’t miss out on the panoramic views and architectural splendour. Capturing the ascent via the historic steps and weaving in the rich narrative of the world’s first iron‑framed industrial structure — often called the “grandparent of skyscrapers.”
